Cultivating a Culture of Support in Greek Hospitality: Human Flourishing Movement and Fulbright Specialist Dr. Meg Warren Conclude Pioneering Residency-duplicate-1

What does it mean to truly stand by one another in high-pressure work environments?

The Human Flourishing Movement (HFM), has the distinct honor of serving as the host institution for Dr. Meg Warren, a distinguished Fulbright Specialist and organizational psychologist from Western Washington University, to explore this question.

This initiative is supported by the Fulbright Foundation in Greece. Dr. Warren’s visit reflects the Fulbright Program’s commitment to fostering academic collaboration and meaningful exchange between Greece and the United States.

During her time in Greece, Dr. Meg Warren presented at the International Meeting on Play & Education for Resilience and contributed her expertise to the work of the Human Flourishing Movement. Drawing from her deep expertise in organizational and positive psychology, she collaborated with local partners to exchange knowledge and shape the first foundational practices and strategies for a “strengths-based allyship” framework – a novel approach in which people tap into their strengths to provide empowering support.

Recognizing the intense demands placed on the local workforce, the initiative focused primarily on Greece’s leading economic pillar — the tourism, hospitality, and cultural sector — exploring ways organizations can foster supportive, strengths-based workplace cultures that promote well-being, resilience, and human flourishing.

A cornerstone of this Flourishing Ally Project was the invaluable dialogue and collaboration with senior executives and leaders across the hospitality industry and beyond. By gathering stories of the lived realities of their daily working environments and exploring their cutting-edge innovative practices that are redefining work relationships, organisational culture, and community connections, Dr. Warren is distilling key insights on how exceptional Greek organisations are using their strengths – sometimes unconsciously – to create deeply resilient, flexible, and supportive work environments.

This involves two areas of focus:

  1. Showcasing strengths and best practices for building a culture of allyship that reduces stress, improves well-being, and increases resourcefulness and collective problem-solving.
  2. Exploring opportunities for allyship programs and creative installations to inspire allyship and increase well-being.

This collaborative approach echoes the evolving mindset of industry leaders who increasingly recognize that true hospitality must begin from within—particularly within today’s volatile and rapidly evolving tourism landscape. As Mr. Vasilikos, owner of the Airotel Group and President of the Athens–Attica & Argosaronic Hoteliers Association, recently noted in an interview: “For us to evolve as hoteliers, we need to have a holistic perception. The word flexibility is very important for everyone in the hospitality sector.” Similarly, Mr. Daditsios, Group General Manager of Panas Group, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the employee experience, stating: Companies can intentionally build a culture of support by shifting from a transactional mindset to a human-centric model. We must treat employees with the same level of care and attention that we expect them to show to our guests. Together, these perspectives reflect a growing understanding that adaptability and a supportive organizational culture are essential foundations for modern hospitality. It is precisely this holistic approach—the capacity to foster well-being, resilience, and meaningful support—that the science of human flourishing seeks to strengthen.

Honoring Important Contributions.

This exchange of knowledge would not have been possible without the openness and support of the local business and cultural community. HFM would like to officially commemorate and thank the following organizations for their vital contribution to this dialogue:

Flourishing Futures: IPEN Greece’s Role in Reimagining Education Through Positive Psychology

What does it truly mean to live well—and how can education help us get there?

In this dynamic presentation at the IPPA congress 2025, The Human Flourishing Movement, which serves as the International Positive Education Network‘s Innovation Hub in Greece, shares the story behind its growing Positive Education movement—rooted in ancient wisdom, modern science, and lived experience. Set against the backdrop of a post-COVID educational landscape, the session explores the unique challenges and cultural strengths of Greece, and how Positive Education can guide the future of school culture.

From the launch of IPEN in Greece to large-scale educator training, co-designed classroom interventions, and playful wellbeing toolkits like Giving Two You, this session traces the ripple effect of small, intentional acts of care and character.

It’s a call to action for educators, researchers, and changemakers to reimagine schools as ecosystems of flourishing, creativity, and shared growth.
